I think we, as a society, fall into a trap of forgetting our fellow humans, sometimes. Forgetting to be mindful of the stressful scenarios others encounter, or the difficulties of first responder life. And then, when a tragedy takes place, it can feel almost empty to try and figure out a way to fill the silience, or reach out, or just do something meaningful. Maybe this awkwardness could be avoided, in part, by making kindness a bigger part of our lives; perhaps not waiting until the tragedy has occured, but staying more connected and making caring an active part of everyday life.
Yes, I've said this before, but right now, on a holiday tinged with grief, it feels worth repeating; "we are all our brothers' and sisters' keeper". Sending love and light out to those who need it this evening. God bless you all.
