Individuals made up of true character and integrity don't go out just when it suits them, for a photo op, publicity or a media appearance. Real people who have answered a higher calling to stand up and "do more" don't care to be recognized or applauded or even noticed.....they brush off even the slightest mention of appreciation because what they REALLY want is the most basic and simple wish; to return home to their families at the end of each shift. These people - the kind our world needs - deserve to be allowed to do their job without harassment and disrespect, without smart-ass remarks from others who have been led to believe it is acceptable to shout rude and derogatory comments which foster this attitude of persecution. These things happen daily to the guys and gals who are STILL out there working to make a difference in a world tainted by the constant harping of mainstream media, politicians and "leaders", who through their own actions have encouraged and fostered a sort of witch hunt against the men and women in blue.
It's not okay.
No one deserves such disgraceful treatment, especially those who choose a career so they might help and protect society, and if we saw anyone else treated in such a manner I believe we'd be outraged. But because this has become commonplace in today's society, we've let it continue and spread; sometimes through our own actions perhaps, those which tell us to sit back and look the other way. It's past time for us all to stand up and say NO MORE to the culture of hate which has been created in this country, because we need these individuals who possess true grit - an unwavering desire to make this world better place - qualities which lead them to strive everyday to right the wrongs and protect their fellow human beings.
Many of us already stand firm with those defending the Thin Blue Line, and yet we each have the ability to start something more powerful, to put an end to the apathy by refusing to accept how our officers are treated. Now is our time to rally against the darkness which surrounds our cops; let us stop being quiet and join the fight, by putting forth whatever effort we can make to change minds, perceptions and hearts. Do something today which becomes the beginning of actions you will take in the year ahead, to bring an end to the hate and blame, and above all, to stop the attacks on our officers. Let us show a renewed appreciation for all who defend our neighborhoods, families and lives, by promising to stand behind and with them, every day forward.
