April 25th, 2025: Four Years Later

On this day in 2021, the stillness of a peaceful Sunday morning was shattered. While our beloved Corporal Heacook did not leave this earth for several more days, the sadness and weight that fell over our community will never be forgotten.

Remembering Corporal Keith Heacook

Two years ago this week time stood still as the devastating news from the town of Delmar spread across our corner of the world. People were checking in on one another and we were struggling to stay calm, as our first responders were being asked so many questions to which they had no answers. We cried, we prayed, and later that day, we gathered together in Delmar for a vigil I will never forget.

April 25th, 2023: Two Years Later

Words to honor someone we are all connected to... thoughts or emotions to share.... today is a time to do these things, and yet I'm feeling empty.

January 27th, 2023: Delmar Police Department

Today in Delmar, at a ceremony held in Camelot Hall at St. Stephens Church, two new officers joined a department and a community.

It's Been Four Weeks

May 23rd, 2021: I'm sure eventually there will be a Sunday morning when I don't think "it's been ___ weeks since this tragedy occurred; since a family was shattered; since our community was devastated". But today is not that day.

Friday, April 30th: This has been a surreal week filled with long days, shock, anger, sadness and searching. On Wednesday, April 28th, a press conference held at the Delmar Police Department officially informed us that our hero was gone, and the next morning all I could think to write about was to ask you to channel your grief into compassion for all our local departments and officers who are suffering along with this family.

Our Community Has Lost A Hero

There seemed to be no words last night...but since then I've been reaching; searching; trying to find something to write that may comfort or inspire.... maybe in some way, honor a hero and a life taken far too soon. People who rush to help others should not have their lives ended like this; the families of those who serve and protect shouldn't have to go through this hell.
