National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day 2020

I am both grateful and overwhelmed tonight while taking a look at my saved Google searches for news stories and articles relating to January 9th. To be honest, here on Delmarva I've seen little mention of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, but that could be simply because I've missed something written in support of our police. Maybe I didn't catch something that area media sources posted, or which was shared by local leaders in our community. If I did overlook anything, please, be sure to share it with us.

I'm seeing multiple results coming up from websites and news stations all over the country - more than I recall seeing in previous years. Some wonderful thoughts and inspirational words are being posted around the country to honor our police men and women this week, and I'm going to pass along some of them on our Facebook page.

It's not too late for you to learn more about #LEAD2020; change your profile image to show respect for our cops; acknowledge a local agency this Thursday. Here's where to find out what the day represents and how to participate - visit the website for the founder of this observance, Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) click here. You can also find a number of images celebrating Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on our blog here.

Here are a few snapshots of what I'm seeing online; this post from San Antonio, Texas invites readers to acknowledge local LEO'S this week by uploading a photo to the website. Thought that was a great idea!

From The Mercury newspaper, located in Exton, Pennsylvania: "The statistics are devastating: In 2019, more than 260 officers were shot in the line of duty, and more than 40 officers made the ultimate sacrifice — which is why on Jan. 9, the Fraternal Order of Police Pennsylvania State Lodge is encouraging you to take the time to say thank you in honor of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Law enforcement officers are husbands, wives, sons, daughters, mothers and fathers. Every day, these individuals leave their homes and loved ones to uphold the oath they took to protect and serve their communities, not knowing what will happen during the course of their shift."

In Sterling, Colorado, the South Platte Sentinel's post: "Jan. 9 is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day; it is a time to reflect not only on the sacrifice made by those individuals who lost their life, but also on the immeasurable difference that all law enforcement officers make in our community. To all the men and women who wear the uniform, we say thank you."

We couldn't agree more. To those who defend and protect us all, we offer our sincere thanks and appreciation for all you do!

DSLEO was created for law enforcement of the Delmarva Peninsula (Delaware and the eastern shore areas of Maryland and Virginia), along with advocating respect for all officers. #delmarvablue
