Trooper First Class Arthur W. Plummer, Jr. | Maryland State Police

Monday 5/7: Today we remember a fallen state trooper, the first line of duty death on the eastern shore to be involved in an airplane incident. From the Aviation Command Fallen Heroes website: "Since the inception of Maryland State Police Aviation Command, there has been one airplane and four fatal helicopter crashes. These crashes have claimed the lives of nine State Troopers and one EMT. "

Trooper Plummer was killed in an airplane accident after taking off from Assateague Island, Virginia. He had just located an individual authorities were searching for and crashed onto the beach after takeoff. Trooper Plummer had been with the agency for almost 15 years. Source: ODMP.

End of Watch: April 9th, 1961

I found the comments for Trooper Plummer on the ODMP website particularly touching. One reads "One of my boyhood heroes that influenced my decision to be a State Police officer. He understood boys and thankfully found ways to make his point about obeying the law without arrest and court action. I tried to make some of my later law enforcement with the same discretion." Semper Fi/Sola Deo Gloria, Skip Venable | Major Charles E. (Skip) Venable, Delaware State Police (April 9th, 2014)

A second post: "As I was searching for information for someone from Ocean City, who is writing a book about our town, I came to read all these wonderful comments. That to this day bring tears. Thank you all for your comments, and for remembering my father, Trooper 1st Class Arthur W. Plummer It means so much." Ellen Plummer Merritt, Daughter (November 19th, 2013)

Thank you to all of our law enforcement agencies and departments. We are grateful for you each and every day! Stay safe and God bless you all.

Sincerely,
