National Day of Prayer for Law Enforcement

Today, on the National Day of Prayer for Law Enforcement, we come together to ask for blessings, wellness, and protection for our officers. We know the situations they so often encounter, which challenge the mind, body and spirit, and we humbly pray for calm, effective, responses for all who serve. May the principles of integrity and character guide everything they do, carrying out the work done by the strong who choose to take up the badge, but which is so widely criticized by many. May the armor of righteousness shield and guard our officers from attacks and insults, so they may navigate through each day knowing they upheld the oaths taken, and bring honor to their department.

We pray for an end to the culture of hate which has infiltrated our society; an awakening to the evil perpetuated by those who stir up dissent, cause strife, and target those on the front lines. We pray that these individuals come to a realization of their actions and behavior which puts lives at risk, and serves only to tear down one another.

We ask that God touch hearts, bring clarity and healing to our communities, especially to our leaders who have the power to advocate for responsibility over blame, right over lawlessness, and accountability over apathy. We pray their eyes may be opened to the need for change in our communities and neighborhoods, and that instead of promoting anger and resentment, they instead stand up for what is needed rather than what is popular.

May each of our law enforcement officers find healing from traumatic situations, injuries, and the constant stress they face daily. We pray that wellness, communication and outreach efforts continue to be launched which supports them in every element of their work, so no one feels they are struggling alone. May each and every one of our heroes on the front lines be safe today and in the days to come.

Amen.

Christmas Day Reflections

I am sorry I've not posted much today; 'tis the nature of a chaotic series of days this week. You are all on my mind so much; as I'm thinking of the families split up this holiday with work shifts and unable to attend normal gatherings; praying for the spouses and mothers and fathers of our officers.

Corporal Grade One Matthew T. “Ty” Snook, Delaware State Police.

I was worried about cookies.

Cookies.

I'd lost an old recipe this holiday season, and I was running late with my usual seasonal treats; once I got home, I put my phone on the charger and immersed myself in the kitchen for several hours. Hours, it turned out, during which all hell broke loose in the northern part of our small state; hours during which one of our own Delaware people had the gun of a madman pointed and fired; hours of mayhem and panic and worst of all, the loss of our state trooper.

Halloween Greetings for Law Enforcement Officers

Good morning, and happy last week of October. I was digging through my database for images to post for Halloween and realized some of you may like to have them to use also. Here are a couple of designs - free to download and use on your social media, print, etc.

You Are Not Invisible | #NCOW 2025

I've known people who have served in this profession, and we all realize there is far more to such a career than first meets the eye. While many who serve behind the Thin Silver Line say little, almost hesitating to even acknowledge what they do, I believe the work of those in this occupation should be honored and recognized.

Corporal Stephen Ballard, Delaware State Police | End of Watch: April 26th, 2017

Today marks eight years since our beloved Corporal Ballard was murdered in a Wawa parking lot, and taken away from his family and loved ones, a day that will stay with us forever. He was not "just" taken away from them, it was a loss to all of us, no matter what our occupation, or where we lived; a deep sadness spread across our small state, reached across the country, and touched all of us deeply and profoundly. There were memorial vigils quickly organized; one in Georgetown and one in Dover I believe; places where we went to gather, stand together, and mourn together, for a life brutally cut short.

April 25th, 2025: Four Years Later

On this day in 2021, the stillness of a peaceful Sunday morning was shattered. While our beloved Corporal Heacook did not leave this earth for several more days, the sadness and weight that fell over our community will never be forgotten.

The Kindness of a Stranger

Today is one of love and appreciation, so I'm sharing this post again! If this young man's behavior didn't exemplify kindness and caring, I don't know what does. 💙🖤 August 22nd, 2022: Sometimes things happen which remind us again, how blessed we are to have angels nearby.

Thanksgiving Greetings for Law Enforcement Officers

Good morning! It is November 26th, just two days before Thanksgiving, meaning a wildly chaotic week juggling the demands of five days into three (a bit of extra caffeine perhaps!?) 😁 We know many of you will be celebrating Thanksgiving early or late, due to shifts and schedules, and whatever festivities you will be holding, wherever you are gathering, we wish you and your family a very happy holiday.

Almost Christmas: December 22nd

Good morning! It's been a little while since I've posted on here and I just realized I had not given an update recently; the other half broke both arms and a wrist so life has been a little more chaotic than normal. Recovery is progressing; two weeks down, six to go!

Remembering Corporal Keith Heacook

Two years ago this week time stood still as the devastating news from the town of Delmar spread across our corner of the world. People were checking in on one another and we were struggling to stay calm, as our first responders were being asked so many questions to which they had no answers. We cried, we prayed, and later that day, we gathered together in Delmar for a vigil I will never forget.

April 25th, 2023: Two Years Later

Words to honor someone we are all connected to... thoughts or emotions to share.... today is a time to do these things, and yet I'm feeling empty.

This Shouldn't Be News

A quick scroll through Facebook this morning brought me to this photo posted by Sheriff Deputies. I sat and looked at it and tried to understand why we need to post this......

Celebrating the Month of Love: Hearts for LEO

February has arrived, and we thought this would be a terrific time to spotlight love, kindness and hearts. Welcome to our "Hearts for Law Enforcement" project! We started asking in January what wording or agency people would like to see, and folks have requested specific departments and designs which are featured on our Facebook page. Each heart is then added to our bulletin board and sent to the person who requested it.
